You’re welcome to sing with us at our rehearsals anytime! And who knows, this could be your first step in becoming a performer with the Peninsulaires family. You’ll make new friends and enjoy life experiences you won’t find anywhere else in the world. Our rehearsals and warm-ups are open to the well-behaved public. Come on down to the Sunnyvale Elks Lodge, 375 N. Pastoria Avenue, Sunnyvale, at 7:15PM on a Thursday and grab a warm-up book. By 8:00, you’ll be hankering for more of that good-old barbershop craft.
There is no “best time of year” to visit us because we are always busy, learning new music, or preparing for our next performance which might be our Spring Show, Fall Cabaret Show, Men’s Holiday Chorus, or a Contest competition. However, activities are not all contests or formal productions, so regardless of the time of year, you can become quickly involved in our activities. Make sure to check our calendar around holidays to make sure we’re not taking a day or two off.
Most of our members have no professional musical training and range from painters and laborers to lawyers and engineers. But it is not a member’s profession or musical background that makes this experience so rewarding. It is rather the satisfaction, camaraderie and experience of being a part of a group of average men who come together from all walks of life to successfully produce such a powerful sound so unique to this true American musical form. We will help you learn what you need to know to join us in song.
The Peninsulaires Men’s Barbershop Chorus is always looking for enthusiastic music lovers to sing four part harmony with us. If you’ve ever sung in a school or college group, played a musical instrument, or just want to sing, we invite you to come visit us. You’re welcome to visit us any Thursday evening and experience the vocal and musical learning and fellowship that are part of our every rehearsal. We’ll place you in one of the four singing parts according to your desire and voice range. We provide learning tracks and music to teach you our songs. You bring your enthusiasm, and we’ll teach you our style of singing.
Don’t let inexperience deter you! Polished singing isn’t a requirement to join us, but an audition and director’s approval will be required before you can appear on a public stage with us. You’ll be asked to sing a scale, a simple song to a well known melody, and some musical exercises. Reading music and sight singing aren’t required, but can be an advantage.
We’re all working to improve our musical skills and deliver outstanding barbershop performances to our many friends. Our theater and cabaret performances feature our chorus and quartets as a showcase for our hard work. Come join us!
